B.F. Maiz--Voice Of The Poet

http://www.bfmaiz.com

BF Maiz passed away on May 2nd, 2004
His poetry touched all those who heard him.
His wisdom touched all those who knew him.
We have all lost a very special friend.
This website memorializes his life and his work.

http://www.bfmaiz.com

R.I.P., B.F. Maiz, March 23, 1923--May 02, 2004

Awed and shocked, dazed and confused, speechless and stunned, I am to learn of the passing of a personal hero and friend of mine, a master of master poets, who died on May 02, 2004, exactly one week before I graduated from CU and escaped from my educational prison.

I strongly encourage you, poet and writer or not, to visit this gone but not forgotten man's website to pay him honor and tribute, again at http://www.bfmaiz.com

He once gave me an autographed copy of one of his poems, Holy September Sabbath and thanked me and told me to keep on writing. Well, I did, and it's finally paid off; I wanted so very much to greet and meet the man once more and tell him to his face. I'm on the verge of tears of sadness now; I guess the face-to-face greet and meet will have to wait to some other sweet day.

Here's a special tribute he read to me and my fellow students at Motlow State Community College a mere two days after September 11, 2001.

IN HEAVEN: 175, 93, 11, AND 77

In honor and in remembrance
of all those who died,
we are called
to fill our days
dreaming of,
and working toward, PEACE.

Like a band of angels,
summoned home
by a Gracious God,
to the cry
of golden trumpets,
all those aboard
their fatal flight
on their final
fateful Tuesday morning,
journeyed into eternity
and left us behind
to gaze from a pondering stance
at days we are now
called to fill.

O, how we do,
in our prayers and praise,
remember and love you,
and,
we do too,
in our hearts
wish for you:
God's Justice,
Divine Forgiveness,
Eternal Peace,
and,
Angel's Wings.

In honor and in remembrance
of all those who died,
we are called to fill our days
dreaming of,
and working toward:
PEACE, PEACE, PEACE.

May our dreams of PEACE
be not long deferred.

Hi there. My name is Jessica, and I am the "president" of the psi epsilon chapter of S.T.D. at Florida Southern College. I use quotes because I have yet to do anything presidential;) I have noticed that my chapter is extraordinarily inactive, aside from an occasional dull meeting and our annual book sale. I am looking for ways to get us more involved in the things we SAY we do, but I am not sure where to start. How many of you have experienced successful service projects? Do you have any creative ideas? What do you do for amusement with your chapters? I'd greatly appreciate any information. Anyhow, nice to meet you:)

hello again, everyone!

thanks, loves!

hullo all! wow, i just randomly stumbled upon this community. nice to see we geek greeks have our place on el jay.

anyway.... hi, i'm a member of rider univeristy's chapter (we're in lawrenceville, nj) of sigma tau. i've been appointed to the position of president next year, as our current president graduates in may. i was "inducted" last year, but we didn't have enough people to warrant an actual ceremony. our advisor was also rather absent-minded (though loveable) and just recently handed us off to another professor, so things have been a bit of a mess for us as of late.

just wanted to do the intro thing. hope the end of the semester is treating you all well.

xoxo,
madeleine

Hmm... I just wanted to say hi. I just joined the community, and uh... here I am! :)

My name is Kat, and I'm an English and History double major at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Like many of the people I've already read posts from, we don't have that big of a chapter, but we do what we can with our numbers...

This year, I think we're running a book trade/buy/swap/sell thing for english majors at the end of the semester, and we also do an essay contest for area high schools in the springtime.

Anyways, good to meet all of you guys, and I'm glad someone finally made a community for STD!

Hey guys! I am getting ready to order the honor cords off the website and thought I would let my chapter take a look at some of the other items and see if they want to order anything. (Seeing as you need to order in groups of 2-4 people). I was just curious if any of you guys have ordered any items? I don't want to look like some weirdo with a tote bag with Greek letters.....I transferred to my current scol froma huge Greek school so I am afraid of getting dirty looks, i think. (Although, one of the other honor societies on my campus wears lettered sweatshirts that look identical to the sororities up at my old state school). Any ideas?

Hey everyone! I guess we should all start with some sort of introductory posts.

I am a member of Sigma Tau Delta at Georgian Court University in New Jersey. I just became our chapter's treasurer yesterday. :) I am a double major in English/Elementary Ed. and would love to write some day.
